What we collect, plainly stated
San Pasqual Valley Life is an independent community website. Here's exactly what happens with your information.
📧 What you give us
If you use the contact form or sign up for updates, we receive the name, email address, and message you submit. They go to our inbox and are used only to respond to you and, if you signed up, to send an occasional email with valley news and market updates. We don't sell or rent your information, and we don't share what you send us with anyone. Unsubscribe or ask us to delete your info anytime by sending us a message.
To keep spam out, the forms use a short-lived security token from our own site (no third-party CAPTCHA), and your browser does a brief calculation with that token before a form is sent; nothing about you goes into it. Our hosting provider, Cloudflare, briefly counts submissions from your connection to limit how many one connection can send, and the email we receive notes the country your connection comes from, for spam screening. Neither is used for anything else. We don't publish an email address on this site; please use the contact form.
📊 What's collected automatically
We use Google Analytics to understand anonymous, aggregate usage — which pages get read, roughly where visitors come from. It uses cookies; we see counts and trends, and we don't use it to identify you. See Google's privacy policy or use their opt-out browser add-on.
Do Not Track: this site doesn't respond differently to browser Do Not Track signals. Google Analytics may collect information about your online activity over time and across different websites.
Like any website, our web host keeps standard server logs (IP address, browser type, pages requested) for security and troubleshooting.
💾 Stored on your device
To show “New” markers on stories since your last visit, your browser keeps the time of your last visit in its local storage on your device (spv-lastVisit, plus spv-visit for the current browsing session). If you pause the homepage headline ticker, that choice is remembered the same way (spv-tickerPaused). These stay on your device only — nothing is sent to us — and clearing your browser's site data removes them.
🌐 Services that load on our pages
Some pages load content from other services. As with any web request, they receive your IP address and browser information, and their own privacy policies apply:
- Google Analytics / Google Tag Manager (googletagmanager.com, google-analytics.com) — usage statistics, all pages.
- Google Fonts (fonts.googleapis.com, fonts.gstatic.com) — the site's typefaces, all pages.
- OpenStreetMap (tile.openstreetmap.org) — map tiles on the Real Estate, Schools and neighborhood pages and the explainer pages.
- USGS The National Map (basemap.nationalmap.gov) — aerial photos on the explainer pages' maps, only when you choose Aerial.
- CRMLS listing media (media.crmls.org) — listing photos on the Home and Real Estate pages, when shown.
- Wikimedia Commons (upload.wikimedia.org) — photos on the History and Schools pages.
🔗 Links to other sites
We link out to schools, wineries, government pages, event organizers, and property pages on properkey.us. Their privacy practices are their own — this policy covers only spvlife.com.
